I am Cambodia

Sunrise Children’s Villages are more than orphanages. Geraldine Cox, an Australian, ensures the children get the care, education, and preparation to survive in a country that still suffers from the effects of the civil war and genocide of nearly 50 years ago.

I tried to capture what it is like to be an orphan, to grow up amongst children with very few adults around them, to be an older child who’s about to leave and start a life and family of their own – all without a parent to guide them.

These images were taken alongside the filming of My Pictures My Past, a video about reconnecting children to their childhood drawings & memories.
